How to Prepare for CBSE Class 10 Boards 2027: The Complete Guide

A step-by-step plan to prepare for CBSE Class 10 boards 2027, covering NCERT, chapter weightage, previous year papers, mock tests and subject-wise tips.

Class 10 boards reward students who are consistent, not those who cram. This guide pulls together what actually moves your marks, in the order to do it.

Step 1: Know the paper

Most Class 10 subjects have an 80-mark theory paper plus 20 marks of internal assessment, and every paper is 3 hours. Maths and Science have five sections, from one-mark MCQs and assertion-reason questions up to 5-mark long answers and 4-mark case-based questions. CBSE has said the 2026-27 pattern is unchanged from 2025-26. See the sample papers and the exam pattern FAQ.

Step 2: NCERT, chapter by chapter

Read each NCERT chapter properly, including the examples, in-text questions and end-of-chapter exercises. Board questions are framed on these, often very closely.

Step 3: Previous year questions per chapter

As you finish each chapter, solve its previous year board questions and check them against the marking scheme. This shows you how CBSE asks about that chapter. BoardPrep lets you practise chapter-wise with the official answer after each question.

Step 4: Prioritise by weightage

Some chapters carry far more marks than others. In recent Class 10 Maths papers, Trigonometry alone averaged about 16.5 marks. In Science, Light and Electricity lead. See the important chapters for Maths, Science and Social Science.

Step 5: Full timed papers

From January, take at least one full 3-hour paper per subject per week. Mark it strictly against the marking scheme and keep an error log.

Step 6: Revise smart in the last month

Use the error log, the high-weightage chapters and formula or key-term sheets. Avoid starting new books in the final weeks. Follow our last 30 days plan.

Subject quick tips

  • Maths: practise every NCERT exercise and show every step, because steps carry marks.
  • Science: draw labelled diagrams, balance equations and write units.
  • Social Science: answer in points using NCERT terms, and practise the map list.
  • English: know the writing formats and word limits, and read the literature chapters closely.
