How to Balance CBSE Class 12 Boards and NEET Preparation

How to prepare for CBSE Class 12 boards and NEET together, using the NCERT overlap, a weekly routine and the right switch-over point before the boards.

For NEET aspirants, NCERT is the common ground: NEET Biology in particular follows NCERT closely. Good board preparation and good NEET preparation reinforce each other.

Board requirement for NEET

To be eligible for NEET you must pass Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, and meet the minimum PCB percentage set by the NMC. Check the current NEET bulletin.

What boards add

NEET is MCQ-based. Boards need written answers: diagrams, explanations, derivations and reasons. That writing needs practice of its own.

A weekly routine (through December)

  • NEET practice most days: MCQs on your current chapters.
  • One board day per week: written answers and diagrams for the week's chapters, plus their previous year board questions.

From mid-January

Give boards the priority: full timed papers, Biology diagrams, Physics derivations and numericals, and Chemistry reactions and reasoning questions.

High-weightage chapters to secure

  • Biology: Molecular Basis of Inheritance, Reproductive Health, Human Health & Disease. Biology
  • Chemistry: Coordination Compounds, Aldehydes & Ketones, Electrochemistry. Chemistry
  • Physics: Magnetism, Electrostatics, Semiconductors. Physics
