How Many Mock Tests Before Boards, and How to Analyse Them
How many full mock papers to take before CBSE boards, and a simple method to analyse each one so your marks go up test after test.
Taking mock tests helps. Analysing them is where the marks come from.
How many?
In the last 6–8 weeks, aim for at least one full timed paper per subject per week. That's 6–8 papers per subject before the exam. Weak subjects deserve more.
Take them like the real exam
- 3 hours in one sitting, plus 15 minutes of reading time
- no phone, no notes, no breaks
- write on paper, not just in your head
The 4-column analysis
After marking with the marking scheme, sort every lost mark into:
| Type | Example | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Concept gap | Didn't know the formula | Re-study the topic in NCERT, then do 5 questions on it |
| Silly mistake | Sign error, misread question | Slow down on that question type, underline what's asked |
| Presentation | Missing units, key term or step | Compare with the marking scheme and rewrite the answer |
| Time | Couldn't finish | Practise section-wise timing |
Track the trend
Note your score and lost marks by type after each test. You want the concept-gap column shrinking first.
