Short answer: in recent CBSE Class 12 History board papers, the chapters carrying the most marks are Bricks, Beads & Bones (Harappa) (about 6.9 marks per paper), Kings, Farmers & Towns (about 6.9 marks per paper), An Imperial Capital: Vijayanagara (about 6.8 marks per paper). Chapter-wise weightage: Class 12 History

Method: each question in the 2023–2026 board papers (two sets per year) is tagged to its NCERT chapter. Marks are added up per paper and averaged. Tagging is automated, so treat each figure as roughly ±1 mark. Full methodology.

Which chapters to revise first

Must-do: about 10% of the paper or more each

Bricks, Beads & Bones (Harappa), Kings, Farmers & Towns, An Imperial Capital: Vijayanagara, Rebels & the Raj (1857). Revise these first and solve every previous year question on them.

High value: 5–10% each

Bhakti–Sufi Traditions, Mahatma Gandhi & the Nationalist Movement, Thinkers, Beliefs & Buildings, Peasants, Zamindars & the State, Through the Eyes of Travellers, Kinship, Caste & Class, Colonialism & the Countryside, Framing the Constitution. Cover these thoroughly after the must-do chapters.

Lower weightage: under 5% each

Kings & Chronicles (Mughal Courts). Don't skip them: they still add up and often carry quick one-mark questions.

Do questions repeat in Class 12 History?

Comparing all 291 Class 12 History board questions from 2022–2026, 8 were asked again, in near-identical form, in a different board year, most often from Framing the Constitution, Thinkers, Beliefs & Buildings, Through the Eyes of Travellers. Exact repeats are rare here, so focus on understanding concepts rather than memorising old answers.
