Match length to marks
| Marks | Typical answer |
|---|---|
| 1 | One word, line or option, with no explanation unless asked |
| 2 | 2 points or 2–3 lines; for numericals, formula and answer |
| 3 | 3 distinct points or a full worked solution |
| 5 | 5 points with a short introduction or a long worked solution, plus a diagram if relevant |
Structure
- Number every answer clearly exactly as in the paper, including sub-parts.
- Start each answer on a fresh line and leave a line between answers.
- Use points for theory answers. Use short paragraphs only where reasoning is needed.
- Underline key terms, sparingly.
Science and Maths
- Write the formula, then substitute values with units, then box the final answer.
- Draw diagrams in pencil and label them neatly.
Humanities and Commerce
- Begin with a one-line definition or context.
- Make one argument per point, with an example or evidence from the textbook.
- End long answers with a one-line conclusion.
